Our Leaders

CEO & Founder

Kenneth Head is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Safe Steps United, a Michigan-based nonprofit organization building one of the most focused and practical prevention resource libraries for youth in the country. Through structured educational tools, field guides, and curriculum designed for young people ages 5 to 24, Safe Steps United equips youth, families, educators, facilitators, and community organizations with the frameworks needed to interrupt conflict, navigate high-pressure decisions, and protect their futures before a single moment defines them.

Kenneth founded Safe Steps United on a conviction rooted in both professional discipline and community awareness — that the most powerful intervention in a young person's life is not a reaction after something goes wrong, but a tool placed in their hands before it does. Born and raised in Detroit, his understanding of the gap between what systems teach young people and what those young people actually need in real-world moments is not theoretical. It is the foundation the organization was built on.

Under his leadership, Safe Steps United has developed a growing library of prevention focused education published materials all grounded in research on adolescent decision-making, adverse childhood experiences, and behavioral habit formation. The organization's tools align with PBIS, Social-Emotional Learning, restorative practices, and evidence-based violence interruption models, making Safe Steps United a credible and deployable resource for schools, re-entry programs, juvenile justice settings, and community-based youth organizations.

Kenneth holds a Master of Business Administration. He brings the organizational structure, and long-term sustainability thinking that mission-driven organizations require to grow beyond their founding vision — and the personal commitment to community that ensures the work never loses its purpose.

Chief Operations Officer

Tabitha Currie serves as Chief Operating Officer of Safe Steps United, helping to build an organization equal to its mission. Where the vision calls for prevention education that reaches young people before harm occurs, Tabitha develops the structure that makes that reach possible—turning ideas into published resources and those resources into practical tools that communities can use.

Since stepping into the role, she has led the development of Safe Steps United’s growing library of prevention-focused educational materials, including youth field guides, applied workbooks, facilitator tools, participant resources, and materials for families and caregivers. These resources are designed to support young people, educators, families, community organizations, and professionals working in youth-serving environments.

Tabitha’s leadership extends beyond resource development. She builds the operational systems, internal processes, implementation structures, and organizational foundation needed to move Safe Steps United’s work from concept to sustained community use. Her approach reflects a central commitment: meaningful prevention requires not only relevant educational tools, but also disciplined organizations capable of delivering them responsibly and consistently.

She is deeply invested in expanding access to practical safety and decision-making education, particularly in communities where early prevention resources can help young people navigate pressure, conflict, and consequential choices. Tabitha works closely with the CEO, educators, community partners, and youth-serving organizations to ensure that Safe Steps United’s resources are accessible, purposeful, and positioned for responsible long-term growth.

Director of Education and Development

Dr. Demetria Head serves as Director of Education and Development at Safe Steps United, where she supports the educational direction, partnership development, and strategic growth of the organization’s expanding library of prevention-focused resources.

Her work sits at the intersection of educational integrity and organizational reach. She helps ensure that Safe Steps United’s resources are informed by sound instructional practice and designed to serve the schools, programs, families, and communities working directly with young people.

Dr. Head brings an interdisciplinary perspective shaped by legal compliance, educational theory, and language pedagogy—the study and practice of how language and instruction can be structured to support learning, engagement, and understanding. This expertise contributes to the development and review of resources designed around how young people learn, process information, respond to pressure, and apply decision-making strategies in real-world situations.

Her approach to partnership development reflects the same care she brings to educational content. Dr. Head focuses on building relationships grounded in trust, shared purpose, and mission alignment. She works closely with Safe Steps United’s executive leadership to help ensure that partnerships support the organization’s educational priorities and advance its commitment to youth safety, prevention education, and responsible decision-making for young people ages 5 to 24.

Dr. Head holds a Master of Science in Legal Compliance and a Doctor of Philosophy in Education. She brings instructional expertise and a strong understanding of compliance and communication to Safe Steps United’s educational and partnership development work.
