Kenneth Head is the Founder and CEO of Safe Steps United, a Michigan-based nonprofit dedicated to helping children grow up safer, more confident, and better prepared to navigate real-world challenges. Born and raised in Detroit, Kenneth’s work is deeply informed by the lived realities of families and communities across the city and beyond

Kenneth Head is the Founder and CEO of Safe Steps United, a Michigan-based nonprofit dedicated to helping children grow up safer, more confident, and better prepared to navigate real-world challenges. Born and raised in Detroit, Kenneth’s work is deeply informed by the lived realities of families and communities across the city and beyond.

Through Safe Steps United, he develops books, curriculum, and hands-on programs that teach safety awareness, conflict resolution, and emotional decision-making in ways children can understand and use in their everyday lives. His focus is on practical, preventative tools that support parents, educators, and community leaders in protecting youth and reducing violence before it begins.

Kenneth holds an MBA in Accounting, along with graduate certificates in modern finance and formal studies in economics. He brings structure, accountability, and long-term sustainability to a mission rooted in service. By combining lived experience with education and strong community partnerships, he is committed to building solutions that strengthen families and create lasting impact.

Tabitha Currie serves as Chief Operating Officer at Safe Steps United, where she provides strategic, operational, and programmatic leadership in support of the organization’s mission to promote safety, prevention, and responsible decision-making among youth and families.

With a strong background in operations, compliance, and organizational oversight, Tabitha brings a disciplined, systems-driven approach to nonprofit leadership. She plays a key role in ensuring that programs are thoughtfully designed, effectively implemented, and positioned for sustainable growth and measurable community impact.

Tabitha is deeply motivated by the belief that prevention-based education saves lives. Her work centers on equipping children and families with practical, age-appropriate tools that empower them to make safe choices, resolve conflict responsibly, and understand the serious consequences of unsafe behaviors. She is particularly focused on expanding access to safety education in underserved and high-risk communities, where early intervention can create lasting, generational change.

Tabitha’s journey to Safe Steps United is rooted in many years of nonprofit work, where she saw firsthand how meaningful, mission-driven services can create real and lasting change. She has been drawn to roles that allow her to serve others in practical ways, particularly work that directly impacts youth, families, and underserved communities. These experiences reinforced her belief that prevention-based education is not only necessary, but transformative when delivered with intention and care.

As Chief Operating Officer, Tabitha works closely with organizational leadership, educators, community partners, and policymakers to advance Safe Steps United’s vision of safer, more informed families and communities. Her goal is to help build a nationally respected organization that not only responds to today’s challenges, but also shapes long-term solutions that protect and uplift the next generation.

With a strong foundation in relationship-building, strategic outreach, and organizational development, Demetria focuses on expanding access to Safe Steps United’s prevention-based education programs while supporting the organization’s long-term sustainability and impact. Her work reflects a thoughtful balance between growth and integrity, ensuring that partnerships are built on trust, accountability, and shared values.

Demetria brings a unique interdisciplinary perspective to her leadership, holding a Master of Science in Legal Compliance and a PhD in Education.  Deeply committed to initiatives that produce meaningful, life-saving results, Demetria works closely with executive leadership to align partnerships with Safe Steps United’s programmatic vision and organizational mission. Her focus is on building relationships that not only support today’s work, but also strengthen the foundation for lasting, community-centered impact.
