CEO & Founder

Kenneth Head is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Safe Steps United, a Michigan-based nonprofit organization building one of the most focused and practical prevention resource libraries for youth in the country. Through structured educational tools, field guides, and curriculum designed for young people ages 5 to 24, Safe Steps United equips youth, families, educators, facilitators, and community organizations with the frameworks needed to interrupt conflict, navigate high-pressure decisions, and protect their futures before a single moment defines them.

Kenneth founded Safe Steps United on a conviction rooted in both professional discipline and community awareness — that the most powerful intervention in a young person's life is not a reaction after something goes wrong, but a tool placed in their hands before it does. Born and raised in Detroit, his understanding of the gap between what systems teach young people and what those young people actually need in real-world moments is not theoretical. It is the foundation the organization was built on.

Under his leadership, Safe Steps United has developed a growing library of published resources including youth field guides, applied practice workbooks, facilitator supplements, structured participant trackers, and prevention-focused educational materials — all grounded in research on adolescent decision-making, adverse childhood experiences, and behavioral habit formation. The organization's tools align with PBIS, Social-Emotional Learning, restorative practices, and evidence-based violence interruption models, making Safe Steps United a credible and deployable resource for schools, re-entry programs, juvenile justice settings, and community-based youth organizations.

Kenneth holds a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting, along with graduate certificates in modern finance and formal studies in economics. He brings the financial rigor, organizational structure, and long-term sustainability thinking that mission-driven organizations require to grow beyond their founding vision — and the personal commitment to community that ensures the work never loses its purpose.

Chief Operations Officer

Tabitha Currie serves as Chief Operating Officer of Safe Steps United, where she provides the strategic, operational, and programmatic leadership that translates the organization's mission into structure, systems, and sustainable impact. As the driving force behind Safe Steps United's day-to-day operations, Tabitha ensures that every program, resource, and initiative is thoughtfully designed, effectively implemented, and positioned to reach the communities that need it most.

Tabitha's work is grounded in a straightforward conviction — that prevention-based education saves lives, and that saving lives requires more than good intentions. It requires disciplined systems, accountable processes, and organizations built to last. She brings that standard to every aspect of her role, applying a rigorous, compliance-informed approach to nonprofit leadership that keeps Safe Steps United operationally sound and mission-focused as the organization grows.

Her focus extends beyond internal operations. Tabitha is particularly committed to expanding access to safety education in underserved and high-risk communities, where early intervention has the greatest potential to create lasting, generational change. She works closely with organizational leadership, educators, community partners, and policymakers to ensure Safe Steps United's tools and programs reach the populations they were built to serve — and that the organization has the infrastructure to sustain that reach over time.

Tabitha holds a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting. She brings the financial discipline, operational rigor, and systems-driven thinking that enable a mission-driven organization to grow without losing its integrity, its accountability, or its purpose.

Director of Education and Development

Dr. Demetria Head serves as Director of Education and Development at Safe Steps United, where she leads the strategic growth, partnership development, and educational framework that supports the organization's expanding library of prevention-focused resources. Her work sits at the intersection of content integrity and organizational reach — ensuring that what Safe Steps United builds is grounded in sound educational practice, and that it finds its way into the schools, programs, and communities where it can do the most good.

Demetria brings an interdisciplinary perspective that is rare in the prevention education space. Her background spans legal compliance, educational theory, and language pedagogy — the study of how communication is designed to reach, engage, and change the people it is built for. That expertise is embedded in every Safe Steps United resource. The frameworks are not simply written for youth. They are designed for how youth learn, process pressure, and internalize behavior — a distinction that separates effective curriculum from well-intentioned content.

Her approach to partnerships reflects the same standard she applies to content. Demetria focuses on building relationships grounded in trust, shared values, and aligned mission — not simply organizational growth for its own sake. She works closely with executive leadership to ensure that every partnership Safe Steps United enters strengthens the organization's programmatic vision and advances its commitment to safety, prevention, and responsible decision-making for young people ages 5 to 24.

Dr. Head holds a Master of Science in Legal Compliance and a Doctor of Philosophy in Education with a specialization in language pedagogy. She brings the scholarly rigor, instructional expertise, and strategic discipline that anchor Safe Steps United's content in evidence, and its partnerships in purpose.
